Department of Industrial Design

In the early stages of Industrial Design Program at the Taipei Institute of Technology, it was consist of both Architecture and Industrial Design. At that time, it was established under the Department of Civil Engineering as a two year program. It wasn’t until 1978, the insert of Furniture Design Group, which slowly turn into the Industrial Design Department we see today. By late 1997, the renaming of Taipei Institute of Technology to National Taipei University of Technology, lead to the official start Industrial Design Department.

The department is divided into two groups, Product Design and Furniture and Interior Design. Both groups contain low student to teacher ratio, to help cultivate students and preparing them in response to the needs of the industry. Teaching not only theories but also hands on practice to receive a degree from Taipei Tech. One of the requirements of students is to participate in a design exhibition at the end of each semester, allowing teachers, industry operators, and design experts to come and critique on the student's work, preparing them for the industry.

Master Program of Innovation and Design

Accepting all students who have a background in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Interior Design, Creative Design or Digital Design, in order to further their expertise on these respective fields during their Masters. In accordance with the government promoted programs, such as “International Innovation Center”, “Higher Production Value” and “Cultural and Creative Industries” etc. Our program offers industrial designers a chance to become a professional innovator. Part of the program’s core includes Innovation Planning and Management, Innovative Product Design, Furniture, and Interior Design, Innovative Digital Design and Cultural Innovation Promotion Development curriculums to help improve society.

Centre of Woodwork Technology and Innovation (COWTAI)

As of May of 2014, the school and Yuen Foong Paper Co. in Taichung partner up and established “Centre of Woodwork Technology and Innovation”. Using their resources to help and create small production of innovative products, hold design internship camps, set up wood art workshops, technical recultivation and R&D into new technologies to revisit the glorious days of Taiwan wood industry.

Wooden Cultivation, Design Research and Development Center

The main purpose of the Wooden Center is to teach students wood processing, to create furnitures, toys, stationeries, culture innovations and many more. Combining traditional wood skills, innovative design and technology R&B to nurture professionals. In addition to the weekend continuing education programs such as “Luban”, but also lectures on woodskills. To help promote and pass down the wood work and skills to others.

Innovation Design and Knowledge Management Research Center

IKRC’s Innovation Design and Knowledge Management Research Center, helps companies find innovative values through consumer’s demand and market trends. Believing that finding the core of the real problem can help create market value and produce innovations. Not only to help enterprise transform and create values, but to also help reestablish designs and innovations to meet both the company's and consumer’s expectation.
