We designed Heart Ease, a hardware-software integrated Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that aims to connect certified emergency responders with patients in need. By registering an AED or CPR certificate through a smartphone, users can join a local rescue network and be ready to respond swiftly to nearby emergencies. When someone collapses nearby, bystanders can activate the rescue system via the emergency button on their phone. The system will instantly display the nearest responder's location, estimated arrival time, and provide map navigation to the patient’s location.
In emergencies, bystanders can quickly activate the rescue system, which offers clear map navigation and real-time information on rescuers, including their current location and estimated time of arrival. The Heart Ease AED is compact and portable, measuring just 100 x 100 x 35 mm, making it easy to install in public spaces. It has been redesigned with an intuitive user interface and display screen to enhance visual guidance and simplify operation.
Users can register their AED or CPR certificates via the app, and the system sends alerts to certified responders within a one-kilometer radius. It leverages AEDs installed in public spaces for rapid deployment, ensuring immediate assistance during critical moments. This portable AED is lightweight and can be easily stored in a backpack or car seat, as well as conveniently installed in public areas to meet diverse situational needs. Based on a thorough analysis of operational processes, we redesigned the AED’s screen and buttons to make operation more intuitive, with clear visual guidance. This ensures that rescuers can continue providing effective aid until an ambulance arrives, significantly improving overall rescue efficiency.
